I've been a stepmom for over two decades, and I can tell you that getting a special one-of-a-kind card every year from my stepchild meant the world to me.

In the weeks leading up to Mother's Day, card shops, drug stores, and supermarkets start to fill up with chocolates, greeting cards, and other fun goodies for all the dedicated moms out there who do so much for their kids.

But what about stepmoms? Where do they fit in? Should you give a card to your stepmother that just says Happy Mother's Day? How you choose to acknowledge your stepmom depends on the relationship you have with her, how often you see her, and how long she has been in your life.

There Are Many Ways to Show Your Appreciation

The most important thing, though, is that you do acknowledge your stepmother's role in your life, whether you choose to do so on one special day of the year or on many different occasions.

If you want to create a one-of-a-kind greeting card for your stepmom, you could buy a pretty blank card and fill it with your own special greeting. Here's One Gift That I Wish Someone Had Given Me on Mother's Day!

As a stepmother myself, I know that sometimes the relationship between a stepchild and a stepmother can take time to build. There are ups and downs, good days, and bad days, just like any relationship between a parent-figure and a child.

One of my favorite, and by far the funniest books I've read on being a stepmom is "The Package Deal" by Izzy Rose. It's a light and lively read filled with funny, heartwarming step-parenting moments. I discovered the book myself after joining some stepmother forums and was delighted by how true-to-life it was.

I've since lent it the book to many other stepmoms I know, and they've all said the same thing, "I thought I was the only one who felt like that!"

Few women I know would turn down a chance to spend some quiet time alone reading, no matter how much they love their kids and stepkids!

Most stepmoms like breakfast in bed, just like biological moms do!

Breakfast in Bed Is a Mother's Day Classic

You can try making a special brunch or breakfast for your stepmom, or you can plan a grand meal for everyone in the family, with your stepmother as the guest of honor. If you don't know what to make, these cooking tutorials may provide some inspiration!

Remember That Time When...

The most important thing about wishing your stepmother a Happy Mother's Day is that you put some thought into the gift you choose for her. When you write something in her Mother's Day card, write something that lets her know you appreciate her and want to thank her for being a part of your life.

Sharing a story about a favorite childhood memory with your stepmom is a nice way to acknowledge her when you don't know what to say in a Mother's Day Card.
